Festive 30th edition of the International Paris Marathon

Great conditions were reunited this morning on the Champs Elysées for this race gathering more than 30 000 entries. When last participants passed the starting line, leaders were already running place Nation .

More than 200 000 people were present in all streets of Paris from Bastille to the Bois de Boulogne to cheer and encourage marathoners, and be part of this festive day in Paris with more than 80 musical animations all along the race.

For its 30th anniversary, Paris Marathon is proud to announce that more than 1500 participants have crossed the finish line within 3 hours, confirming its worldwide leadership on this point.

Elite race has made its surprise by having 2 usual Paris Marathon as winners for their first time: the ethiopian Gashaw Melese for men & the russian Irina Timofeyeva for women.

On the French side, Zaia Dahmani has taken the women 6th place in 2h31’31 and David Ramard has as well done a great run by breaking his personal record to 2h10’51.

On mens’ course, it is only getting to the bois de Boulogne, a few kilometers away from the finish line, that the Ethiopian Gashaw Melese made the difference by breaking away from the leading group, leaving 6 great athletes behind him. Gashaw Melese, at 27 years old, wins his first marathon and breaks his personal record to 2h08’03 on this Paris Marathon race where he finished 4th two years ago, and third last year.
45 seconds away, kenyans Kiprotich Kenei & Bernard Barmasai take respectively 2nd & 3rd place in 2h08’51 and 2h08’52. Just few seconds behind, the portuguese Luis Jesus and the kenyan neo-marathoner David Langat have as well done a great run.

On women side, the favorite Mihaela Botezan from Romania has clearly led most of the race, but found difficulties at the end of the race. At this moment around kilometer 35, the two russians Timofeyeva & Volgina have taken the lead of the women marathon. It is finally Timofeyeva, more experienced than her compatriot that stood out of the women marathon in 2h27’22 (against 2h27’32 for Natalya Volgina).The last place of the podium goes to the Kenyan Pamela Chepchumba (in 2h29’48) who has stolen the third place to Mihaela Botezan.

Just behind Irina Timofeyeva, her compatriot Natalya Volgina takes second place in 2h27'28. The romanian who has led most of the race won't be on the podium. It's the Kenyan Pamela Chepchumba who takes 3rd place in 2h29'45.

The Russian Timofeyeva wins the 30th edition of the Paris Marathon in 2h27'19.

11:03 - Women at km 39
Tomifeyeva has passed in 2h16'21 km 39, which is 2 seconds in front of her russian compatriot Volgina.

10:56 - Men final podium
First place for Gashaw MELESE. Second place for the kenyan Kiprotich Kenei in 2h08'48 and third place for the kenyan Bernard BARMASAI 2 seconds behind.

Final sprint for Malese who has just won the 30th Paris marathon in 2h08.

10:51 - Melese close to finish line
The Ethiopian Gashaw MELESE should pass the finish line within few minutes. Just behind, Barmasai & Kenei are at hand for the second place.

Volgina& Timofeyeva are now in lead of the marathon leaving bOTEZAN far behind.

10:47 - Women marathon is not settled
Nothing is settled for the women race. BOTEZAN is being caught up by the Russians Timofeyeva & Volgina who are now just seconds behind at km 35.

10:43 - 16 seconds in lead for Melese
4 kilometers away from the finish line, Melese has an advance of 16 seconds from the group. He should pass the finish line around 2h08.

10:40 - Melese breaks away
The Ethipian confirms his break away. He is now normally confident for the rest of the race.

10:37 - Malese tries a break away
The Ethiopian Gashaw MALESE has gained around 30 meters from the group.

The 7 marathonians in lead have passed in 1h48'28 the Km 35

10:32 - Km 30
In lead from the beginning of the marathon, Botezan is still in lead at km 30 with 1h44'25. Just behind 6 women have passed in 1h45'12.

10:25 - 7 runners in lead
Only 7 athletes in lead are left. The favorites Kenyans Kiprop, Barmasai & Langat are present. Just as the portuguese Jesus & the ethiopian Malese.

1h30'53 for the leading group at km 30. Rotich is being leaded .

10:13 - Women at km 25 in 1h26'37
The women leading group have passed km 25 in 1h26'37. Less than 2h27 pace race.

10:09 - Finish of the Handisport marathon
The South African Ernst VAN DYCK has repeat his feat by winning the Handisport marathon.

The leading athletes have rejoined Kirui. They have in 1h15'26

10:01 - Women at the semi marathon
BOTEZAN has just passed in 1h13 the semi marathon. The following leading group is a 1'10 behind.

Kirui has gained few meters from the leading group by following hares.

The leaders have passed half the marathon in 1h04'07 . All favorites are still there, they are at a 2'07 pace race.

The men leading runners have passed in 1h00 34

Botezan has passed in 51'49. She is closely followed by 4 women including Dhamani.

The leading group has passed Km 15 in 45'24.
A pace of 3'01 per kilometer. Still around 10 runners after hares.

BOTEZAN still in lead with 34'29. A pack of six women follow close behind.

30'06 for the leaders on km 10.
Only around 10 runners follow hares from now on.

09:15 - Botezan in lead
BOTEZAN leads the women race with 27'46 for Km 8 .
Just behind, Dhamani follows on the French record rythm.
