The 33rd ING Amsterdam Marathon will be run on Amsterdam's flat and fast course on Sunday 19 October 2008. Last year's success can mainly be attributed to the Kenyan athlete Emmanuel Mutai. His time of 2.06.29 put him in second place in the 2007 world rankings and a mere nine seconds off the course record set by Haile Gebrselassie in 2005. In addition to establishing a new track record, the ING Amsterdam Marathon 2007 also drew a record number of participants - 22,500. Among the participants were 8,462 foreigners from no fewer than 63 countries with representatives from Australia, Japan, the United States, Canada, Peru, Chile and many other nations.
